　　Qinghai Lake, 3,205 meters above sea level and 100 kilometers to the west of Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, is the largest saltwater lake in China. It covers an area of 4,317 square kilometers and reaches 25.5 meters in depth. There are 23 rivers injecting into Qinghai Lake, most of which are seasonal. 80 percent of the water from Qinghai Lake originates from five main rivers. As Qinghai Lake is situated in the intersection of several migration routes of migratory birds, it is regarded as thetemporary resting spot for birds during migration. The west side of Qinghai Lake is the famous bird island, a tourist attraction for birdwatchers all over the world. Every Summer, it attracts visitors to watch the international cycling competition.
