Make a good tra ition from high school to university

After my entry to the university，I often asked myself“What are the differences between high school and university in English study？”We know， in high school both teachers and students take it for granted that English study is exam-oriented in view of the great pressure of the Entrance Examination． And is it still the same in university？Many college students may say“Of course―it is CET-4 and CET-6 oriented．”I understand each idea，but I don't agree．In my opinion，CET-4 and CET-6 are two basic tasks of college study，and shouldn't dominate English study．Just as the first article to the teacher in the New Concept English tells us，“An examination must always be regarded as something secondary，a by-product which the student will take in his stride．It must never be regarded as an end in itself．”If it was we would become mutes，unable to express ourselves freely and lively in practice except when taking exams． Therefore，in the beginning I told myself that my main English study objective was to use it well when graduating．I am always encouraged to improve my English continuously by such motivation and achieved good result．Here are two key elements I suggest．
Activeness．In high school，it is teacher-led in English classes．The major work we have to do is taking notes．But in university，it calls for student participation．We can no longer be passive to accept what the teachers and textbooks say．We must really learn to think and analyze independently．I remember that when I was a freshman，I always tried my best to make a good preparation，seizing every chance toexpress myself．I am never afraid to make mistakes，because mistakes can generate progress via correction．The more positive you engage in your English class，the better your English will be．
Persistence．I've formed a good habit since the first year by reciting 100 words everyday， writing a passage every week and making an outline for every text．I can feel that my English reaching higher levels gradually．So I propose you draw up an effective plan for your English study and carry it out strictly．
