WHAT IS THE REAL HIGHER EDUCASION

大四的同学难免要经历考研、找工作乃至出国留学的艰难选择和奋斗历程，本文作者，武汉大学的方雅茜同学也不例外。在此过程中，还引发了她对高等教育的思考―――

I am a standard senior．Maybe I will continue my career as apostgraduate，but it's also possible that I will choose to plunge into the society―the biggest university for everyone．If I choose the latter，I will have to face one of the biggest challenges in my life―to find a job，a good job，a suitable job，a satisfactory job．
However，when I enter the“talent market，I will probably feel disappointed and depressed，as most of the undergraduates do now．Because so many of the enterprises nowadays require their employees to have several years' working experience when recruiting．The reason they list out is students who have just graduated from universities know nothing except dull and dry theories．But how and where can we accumulate the working experience while there is no enterprise provides us with the opportunity to exercise ourselves？

A famous educator once said：“If we compare our higher education with that of the western countries，it's not difficult for us to discover that we haven't attached enough importance to the quality education．Although the education committee has taken a series of firm reforms to realize the quality education，completing this heavy task still has a long way to go．The modern society needs the comprehensive talent，but it's still easy to find a university student who knows nothing except reciting；the modern society needs the open talent，but it's still hard for a university student to give agood speech in public；the modern society needs physically and mentally healthy talent，but the crime rate in university still keeps rising．Why？Maybe the task of higher education today is not only to teach students knowledge but also，and more important in my opinion，to teach them how to be real human beings．If you don't know how to be a person，how can you be an excellent worker？If most university students have both theoretical basis and practicing ability，do the enterprises need to require the working experience when recruiting？
The other day Iread an article on the Internet．It gave me a fresh ideaa bout higher education．The writer，who is a famous professional in Zhejiang University，said that higher education is a kind of merchandise．Students pay money to enter universities and they consider the higher education akind of investment which will help them to find agood job in the future．Since the higher education nowadays can't add enough value to the students，asaresult，they can't get well prepared for finding a good job．If the universities can treat the students as real consumers，they will offer better“servicesaccording to the demand of the students as well as the talent market．

Although the reality is notas fine aswe have expected， we are glad to see some reforms really coming into effect． For example，there are increasingly more professors and associate professors entering the educational field of undergraduates．The universities also hold various competitions to encourage their students to set up business．In a word，we are progressing．

The society is a melting pot，and the university is an epitome of it．You can accumulate knowledge，reshape personality，cultivate competence and taste a lot here． However，no mater how you define your university，there is one thing for sure，that is，it's the place where your dream begins to fly．
