三、词根press
词根press：压
1、
compress：v.压缩
com（完全）+press（压）→完全压到一起→压缩
compress into：压缩
compress into one chapter：压缩到一章内容内
2、
impress：v.给……留下印象
im（在里面）+press（压）→压倒里面，留下印记→留下印象
impress sb. with sth.：通过……给某人留下印象
impress the public with their achievements：用他们的成就给大众留下印象
impression：n.印象，影响，效果
impression on sb.：对……产生影响、效果
e.g.This experience left a deep impression on him.
这次经历对他有深远的影响。
impressive：adj.影响深刻的，令人难忘的

oppress：v.压迫，迫害
op（相反的）+press（压）→压回来→压迫
treat sb. in a cruel and unfair way用一种残酷的不公正的方法来对待某人
e.g.He determined to do something for convicts and slaves and for all who were oppressed.

四、词根fer
词根fer：运送，忍受

differ：v.不同于
dif（离开）+fer（运送）→一个个分别搬运→不同于
different：adj.不同的
differ from:和……不同
e.g.That arrangement differs from the one I had in mind.
那个安排和我心里想的不一样。
2、
differ with sb. on sth.：在某方面和某人意见相左
e.g.I have to differ with you on this aspect.
在这方面我不同意你的观点。
indifferent：adj.冷漠的
indifferent attitude：漠不关心的态度
3、
suffer：v.遭受
suf（在下面）+fer（忍受）→遭受
suffer from illness：遭受病痛的折磨
suffer from depression：遭受抑郁的困扰
suffering：n.痛苦
e.g.He can get on with living without the haunting fear of his suffering：a terrifying death from his breathing condition.
他可以平静地生活下去，无须整天惧怕即将来临的苦难：因呼吸困难而痛苦地死去。
suffering指的是一种physical or mental pain

confer：v.协商
con（一起）+fer（运送）→来到一起→进行协商
confer with sb. on/about sth.：和某人商议某事
e.g.If you are considering taking more than one medication at the same time，at least confer with your pharmacist【药剂师】 on this point.
如果你正在考虑一次服用一种以上的药物，至少和你的药剂师在这个问题上商量一下。

transfer：v.调动，转换；银行转账
trans（穿过）+fer（运送）→穿梭运送→调动，转换
transfer to another department：调到另一个部门
transfer to Intensive Care Unit：转到ICU病房
ICU= Intensive Care Unit：重症监护室

commute：v.通勤
travel regularly by bus，train，car etc. between your place of work and your home.
在你上班和你住的地方有规律地来往
commuter：n.通勤者
