1.absurd adj.不合理的，荒谬的，可笑的
【例】I cannot remember these absund stories.
我不记得这些荒唐的故事了。
It was strange that she would entertain such an absurd idea.

【用】absurd后面的从句中一般用“should+动词原形”。
【辨】absurd foolish silly,ridiculous
这四个词都有“愚蠢的，荒谬的”之意。absurd强调的是不符合人情或常识的，如：an absurd opinion；foolish -般指愚蠢的、可笑的，强调缺乏智慧和判断力；silly强调单纯、糊涂、没有想法，如：a silly boy；ridiculous意为“荒谬的，令人发笑的”，常会有鄙视的意味。

【例】The robber stobbed Dickens deep into his abdomen witha dagger.
